Luigi Pirandello Sicilian dramatist from Agrigento

Novelliere, playwright, he had, in 1934, the world recognition of his great art with the awarding of the Nobel Prize for literature. He taught for many years in middle school. In the meantime he wrote many novels and some novels that were read with great interest. But the theater, that is to say the source of its world fame, came when it was already before the years. His plays have their own structure, with situations that it is not easy to give a solution: travails and agonizing spasms of the spirit; dramas that give thought and not recreation. The collection of novels, novels and dramas by the illustrious artist of ours is one of the most beautiful works of modern Italian literature.

(Girgenti, Agrigento born on 06/28/1867 and deceased in Rome on 10/12/1936)

I am the son of Chaos and not allegorically, but in true reality "(Fragment d'autobiography, 1893).

"... One night in June I fell like a firefly under a great solitary pine tree in a campaign of Saracen olive trees facing the hems of a plateau of blue clay over the African sea... For a fright that had taken of this great morėa, my mother put me in the world before the expected time, in that lonely distant country where she had taken refuge.A my uncle went with a little lantern in his hands for that campaign in search of a peasant woman who helped my mother to put me to the world... Collected from the countryside my birth was marked in the registers of the small town located on the hill... I confess that of all these things I have not done yet nor sure I'll never get any idea "- It was June 28, 1867 The district in which the family of Stefano Pirandello and Caterina Ricci Gramitto (resident in Agrigento, then called Girgenti) had taken refuge to escape the cholera that raged that year in Sicily was called "Cāvusu", Chaos.

Writer, playwright and storyteller. Trained in the Sicilian environment, he attended the University of Rome. He represented

videotape on the scenes the inability of man to identify himself with his personality, in the drama of the search for a truth beyond conventions and appearances. one of the greatest dramatists of the twentieth century. Although his critical fortune has always been very controversial (especially in Italy), he is one of the few contemporary writers who has managed to gain international fame thanks to the extraordinary number of companies that stage dramas in many countries of the world. Also for Pirandello, as for the contemporary Svevo, is the definition of an isolated writer, difficult to be forced into the schemes of a specific literary movement.

The singularity of this author is due, in part, to the often troubled events of his life, which helped to guide him from the earliest works to a reflection on existence, on the role of man in society and on the destiny that awaits him, to reach to conclude, with a sort of detachment, that it is not possible to find any positive solution to the crisis that involves and disrupts individuals, the social fabric, the institutions. Intellectual who rejects the positive and active role in which other men of culture of the early twentieth century believe, in his radical pessimism Pirandello reserves only the task of a lucid and penetrating observer, an attentive and aware witness of the crisis in which his era is debated, and he acutely captures the depersonalization and alienation of modern man, without believing in the concrete possibility of change or redemption.

In life and its eternal flow, Pirandello perceives disorder, randomness and chaos on the one hand, and on the other perceives disintegration and fragmentation. These elements, however, do not stop at external reality: even the individual, within it, lacks unity and compactness, flakes and disintegrates into incoherent fragments. However, according to the writer, each of us tends to fix and stiffen in a form that would like to present itself as unitary, organic and compact. Moreover, all those who observe us, attribute to us a different form from that in which we ourselves recognize ourselves; moreover, even society, with its rules and institutions, imposes a "mask" on us. As a result, everyone tends to deform reality according to the personal vision of the world, and the image of each changes with the changing of perspective. Only the hypocrisy of the institutions, ideologies and rules that man himself has given hold these fragments united in an appearance, behind which however life unstoppable flows. Man, in spite of his efforts, can not penetrate to the end in the labyrinth of appearances, nor to know what is contained in those forms of which he is responsible but also a prisoner; that is why he struggles, helplessly, in their trap, and is forced to suffer those laws that he feels false, but which represents
